GM! Growth, growth, growth! It’s been another busy week for the Witnet team and the community, that’s probably why we missed last weeks issue. We’re back on track and ready to ride now.

The Witnet booth featuring sponsor swag, Witnet swag, and Witty Creatures

Witnet stole the show at EthCC 🇫🇷

Witnet consumed the audience at EthCC with its landmark game, Witty Creatures. Witty Creatures is an NFT game where users claim an egg, and have people incubate their egg by scanning the unique QR code. The more incubations means the more rare the Witty Creature NFT is. All powered by the Witnet randomness oracle.

The conference had around 2,000 attendants, and 752 of them played Witty Creatures. The winner, “Religious Rat” had over 180 scans throughout the conference totaling somewhere close to 150,000 points.

The community is growing 📈

The Witnet community has grown with around 20 new members this week. Growing in a bear market isn’t easy, so we’re really happy to see people excited about what Witnet is and does. Telegram, for example saw the user-base grow by 1.30% since the 18th of July. Come join the fun here.

The Witnet Foundation also gave out its first grant as part of version 1, before we officially launch version 2. Read more about the grant here. Furthermore, there was a community call held on July 27 and there was some interesting discussion held there; if you missed it read this to get up to speed.

The ecosystem is growing, too 🌳

Witnet welcomed Meter to the ecosystem. The mainnet launch was July 18, and the Witnet Foundation is currently granting 2 price feeds to Meter in an effort to grow the projects that will use said price feeds. In addition, Hoo Smart Chain and Cube Chain are both going live on mainnet soon. However, the former of the two has ceased operations as the liquidity crisis at Hoo Exchange worsens; it’s unclear how this will effect the mainnet launch.

The Witnet team is growing, as well 🙆‍♂️

Our development and community people can’t be busier with the many requests for integrations that we are receiving every week, so it is about time to incorporate new talent to this project! Here’s more info on the current openings:

Can’t forget about technology 💻

The Witnet scripting is still a work in progress and we have some PoC for multi signatures and atomic swaps. The biggest improvement regarding the scripting in the last week is the usability improvement; it’s now far easier to create and script from the terminal using the CLI.

Overall, in addition to the Witnet community ecosystem growing, the devs are busy working on some important network improvements. In addition to scripting mentioned above, community members will have a chance to help decide the future of the network; we’re expecting a WIP soon.

Come decide the future 🔮

Witnet is calling on the tight-knit community to help shape the future of the network. There is a lot of discussion to be had about the optimization; changing block rewards, burning slashed collateral, and increasing the age of UTXOs for collateralization. All of these proposals are designed to strengthen the network. Read the discussion history and add some thoughts of your own on any or all of the issues here. We’re nothing, if not decentralized.

Wow, another busy few weeks!

As mentioned above, these will be back to a consistent release so as to keep you all informed and up to date. Until next week, enjoy your Witty Weekend!
